With the New Year in full swing, I am in the mood for cleaning. New years are new starts, and therefore are the perfect time to refresh your space and get rid of all the clutter from the previous year. Having moved twice in 2016, I definitely got rid of a lot of things that I did not need. That being said, my new space is still cluttered! I am now taking the time to unpack everything and get organized in my new space. One of the things I like to be the most organized is my desk. My desk is where I write and where my creative process often happens, so I like to keep it clutter-free. I am in the process of creating a mood board to help with my creative process- but until then, my Pinterest will have to do (I’ve been pinning away lately)!
To keep your desk clutter-free and allow the creative process to flow, I’ve rounded up some essentials that I love. My style is definitely bohemian-chic, and I like mixing edgy pieces with a touch of bohemian flair, so when I saw this custom palm-print laptop case from CaseApp, I knew I had to have it! My previous laptop case was getting a bit dingy, so I needed a replacement ASAP. Having a laptop case is a great way to refresh one of your most used items and have it feeling like new again.
As many of you know, I have been working diligently on decorating my new bungalow. The process is about finished and the last piece I have to show you is the living room! Having an older home, my apartment is filled with gorgeous dark wood details, so I decided there needed to be some whites brought into the mix to brighten up the space. To go with the bohemian theme, I wanted a Moroccan shag rug, much like the Beni Ourain versions you might have seen on the internet. When I found this version of a Beni Ourain from Rugs USA, I knew it had to be mine. The details are a bit different than the standard Moroccan shag rugs and I liked it better that way. The white of the rug was the perfect balance to the darker wood details of our home.
I never was one to put a cover on my laptop, but when I saw the phone and laptop covers at CaseApp, I changed my mind. These covers are fantastic if you want an inexpensive trendy cover or don’t want to commit to a more expensive cover. The best part is you can design the covers yourself! I created mine to match my new bedroom with marble, light pink, and gold. I love the result. I even got two new phone covers to match: one in gold and black and the other in a chic palm tree print.
As things in my new bungalow take shape, I am ready to give you all a peak at my dining room! One of the main features I wanted to create in my new home is a gallery wall. To build my own gallery wall, I took inspiration from several gallery walls from other bloggers that I admire: Lauren Conrad, Emily Henderson, and Ashley Kane. I picked out a few of my favorite pieces from Minted and Rifle Paper Co. and combined them with some flea market finds and a few pieces I had in my bedroom before.
As my bungalow in LA comes together, I am going to share snippets of each room with you all in several blog posts and Instagram posts. The first is of my bedroom! I received the most gorgeous king size mattress from Tuft & Needle, a company started by two engineers in Silicon Valley who are grounded in the belief that quality mattresses can be affordable.
My desk has always been a place of clutter. I keep everything from jewelry, notes, perfume, candles, magazines, to cards on my desk and organize it in a way that makes me feel okay with it (all spread to the corners, pretty much). That’s precisely why I did a reorganization of my desk- I got rid of the clutter and picked out a few essentials that made my desk look and feel cleaner. There’s something about throwing things away that makes me feel cleaner immediately, but that’s a whole different topic, I can feel my OCD kicking in…
I found these gold pineapples via LUX, an app that is beautifully curated to with modern home goods and accessories. This made the search quite easy for me because I immediately fell in love with all of their items! The ring holder and candle are from LUX, and the rest of the pieces are mine. I think they fit in quite nicely, don’t you think?
I love helping creative and upcoming brands and apps get the recognition that they deserve. It makes my blogging job worth it!
You can use the code BOHEMIANBYTHEBAY (valid till end of July) to enjoy 25% on all LUX orders over $40!
I have always loved Pottery Barn’s simple, classically elegant style so when they asked me to collaborate on a room makeover, I didn’t need to think twice. PBTeen has some great staple pieces at affordable prices so you can get the look for less- which is especially convenient when you live in a one bedroom apartment in San Francisco where rent is off the charts and your main living space is your room…
When I saw the Junk Gypsy Field of Clouds Textured Quilt + Sham, I fell in love. I had been searching for the same type of comforter and found many on sites such as West Elm and Anthropologie, but all were over $300. This quilt was exactly what I was looking for- it is the perfect mix of girly and minimal, with the delicate ruching paired with the crisp white color that matches any type of décor.
I paired the quilt with Sequin Ikat Pillow covers to brighten up the foggy days that are so common here in San Francisco. I love the pastel color palette of these pillows that matches the San Francisco landscape glittered with light pink houses and the aqua water of the bay.
To complete the look, I paired the Filigree Beauty Necklace Stand with the Mirrored Trifold Vanity to create a fresh-from-the-flea-maket antiqued bohemian vibe.
